How
does Biofeedback differ from other therapies?
Biofeedback has proven that the mind and body are interconnected and
that with training, you can integrate physical and emotional control in
your daily life. Whereas, some therapies take months or even years to
work, Biofeedback's benefits are immediate. In essence, you are your own
therapist, directing your own progress. The role of the Biofeedback professional
is to provide the tools and guidance to make your journey to optimal health
easy.
How soon will I feel better?
That depends on you. Unlike a drug whose effects are independent of your
control, you influence Biofeedback's outcome. The secrets to success are
motivation and practice.
How many training sessions will be required?
Typically, biofeedback treatment involves a regular series of sessions
over a period of several weeks. Some courses of treatment may involve
as few as 6 or 15 sessions; other disorders may require 40 or 50. The
good news is that biofeedback teaches individuals self regulation. Once
the techniques are learned, the patient may never again require biofeedback
therapy or only a "refresher" session now and then.
How does Biofeedback fit in with traditional medicine?
Although sometimes listed as "alternative health care", Biofeedback compliments
traditional medicine and is the preferred treatment for several medical
conditions.
Is Biofeedback expensive?
Biofeedback is a medical training and will cost about the same as other
therapies (for example, psychological counseling or physical therapy).
However, since Biofeedback Training is of limited duration, the long-term
costs are much less than other alternatives.
Does Insurance cover Biofeedback?
Since all insurers differ in coverage, that's a question you should refer
to your carrier.
Is Biofeedback a cure all?
No! Just as one medication can not cure all illnesses, Biofeedback can
not address all medical conditions. Since Biofeedback believes in the
restorative powers of the mind and body, it can help you attain optimum
health.
Is a Doctor’s Prescription needed?
If Biofeedback Training is for a non-medical condition, no. If the Biofeedback
Training is for a medical related ailment, you should consult with your
doctor and obtain a prescription.
Is Biofeedback for me?
That's a very personal issue; but if you believe that the mind can control
the body, and in the potential to attain control, Biofeedback is worth
exploring. Optimum health can be achieved through training!
